CARTAGENA JAZZ FESTIVAL: Kronos Quartet. THE BATEL

15/11/2024 Seen: 1.377 times

Kronos Quartet is the most revolutionary string quartet in the world. A musical ensemble that was born to completely revolutionize the way we understand music and that in 2023 celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. When the first rehearsal of Kronos Quartet took place on September 1, 1973, a string quartet conceived and led by violinist David Harrington (Portland, Oregon, 1949), not only a mini string chamber orchestra was launched, but a transformative holistic experiment that revitalized a type of formation born at the height of classical music.

He has tackled versions for string quartet of rock pieces by authors ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Trent Reznor, passing through Sigur Rós or Pete Townshend, not to mention his forays into music outside the white and Eurocentric environment such as African, Mexican or Argentine with an album of pieces composed by Astor Piazzolla for the quartet. In addition to his approaches to the musical tradition of the Near East, India and China or the jazz universe.
