SYNOPSIS

Chus Pato reflects on her book Sonora as follows:
«A book of poems has no plot, no argument, perhaps some intrigue that may or may not develop.   If I had to talk about Sonora I would say that her writing tried to approach the radical biological orphanhood that we suffer when faced with the loss of the maternal body. That orphanhood placed me at the breaking point of my lineage, a lineage of peasants, shepherds and migrant women.  There are nine circles, nine waves, nine voices, nine images. The circle does not exclude, it concentrates.»

Chus Pato is the author of twelve collections of poetry, published between 1991 and 2023, for which she has received awards such as the Spanish National Critics' Award, the Losada Dieguez Award, the Irmandade do libro award, and the Clara Campoamor Award. Her works from the Decrúa pentalogy, formerly known as the method, stand out: m-Talá, Charenton, Hordas de escritura, Secesión, and Carne de Leviatán. Her books have been translated into English by Erin Moure and published in Great Britain, the USA, and Canada; others have been published in countries such as Argentina, Portugal, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and France. In 2017, she became a full member of the Real Academia Galega. The publishing house Ultramarinos has published four volumes of Chus Pato's Collected Poetry, a project that presents her work in translation into Spanish . Her latest published book, Sonora, won the 2024 National Poetry Prize.
