CARTAGENA THINKS. FEMINIST READINGS SEMINAR BY THE FEMINIST COORDINATOR OF CARTAGENA

The Feminist Reading Seminar is a space where you can read together current and classic essays with feminist content to understand the mechanisms of patriarchy, debate the most current topics of feminism, or learn about the history of advances in social justice promoted by feminist criticism.

This quarter we will read and talk about bell hooks' book 'Feminism is for everyone' (2000) where the author reflects on the dominant patriarchal culture that generates inequalities and injustices, presenting feminism as a proposal to end said patriarchy and change not only the lives of women, but the lives of all people who opt for a transformation.

Feminism is not just for white women, it must assume and expand that transformative power with deep analysis of racism, classism and of course sexism. On this path, men have to be our allies, without them the feminist struggle will not advance. Sexist thinking, she tells us, installed in both men and women, is our enemy.
