CARTAGENA JAZZ FESTIVAL: Izo Fitzroy in concert.
Izo FitzRoy is a British singer, songwriter and performer whose music effortlessly blends soul, gospel, folk and contemporary jazz. Endowed with a powerful and deeply expressive voice, she has established herself as one of the most distinctive artists on the British music scene today.
Before launching her recording career, FitzRoy worked as a choir director, an experience that profoundly shaped her artistic identity and the spiritual connection that permeates her music. Her debut album, Skyline, was written and recorded in New Orleans, a city whose rich musical heritage left a lasting imprint on her sound. The album introduced her as a compelling new voice in contemporary soul and earned support from BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM and NPR.
Izo FitzRoy is currently preparing to release her fourth album, Humour Me, written and produced in collaboration with artist Sam Walker. This new record marks a natural evolution towards more cinematic folk-inspired territory, while retaining the emotional depth and sonic richness that define her work. Compared to artists such as Michael Kiwanuka, Cleo Sol and Portishead, FitzRoy stands out as a unique voice among a new generation of musicians blurring the boundaries between soul, folk and contemporary roots music.
