CARTAGENA JAZZ FESTIVAL: Rita Payés & Lucía Fumero en concierto.
Some friendships resonate even before the people involved actually meet. From this bond of musical kinship springs the first joint project by Rita Payés and Lucía Fumero: an intimate, unadorned work that draws on the freedom of jazz, as well as roots music and Latin American echoes, to craft a unique sonic landscape. It is a universe where piano, voice, trombone, guitar, percussion, and subtle electronic textures engage in a completely natural dialogue.
Lucía Fumero—pianist, composer, and singer—fuses her Catalan, Argentine, and Swiss roots with the freedom of jazz. Following the acclaim for *Universo normal* (2021), she has built a career defined by creativity and versatility, earning the First Prize from Juventudes Musicales de España and the Best Emerging Band award from the Jazz España Platform. Rita Payés, a Catalan singer and trombonist, has established herself as one of the most distinctive voices of her generation. Her album *De camino al camino* (2024) has positioned her among artists with significant international reach, leading to performances at venues and events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz à la Villette, and Tiny Desk, alongside collaborations with C. Tangana and Jon Batiste.
Together, they transform years of friendship into music. More than just an album, this project is a space where Rita Payés and Lucía Fumero create a habitable world: a tapestry of interwoven moments where the music does more than just sound—it opens up landscapes, envelops the listener, and turns shared experience into art.
