La Mar de Arte presents engravings by Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamín depicting the discovery of America. On display in the Domus del Pórtico gallery until September 27.

Oswaldo Guayasamín (Quito 1919 - Baltimore 1999) was the most important Ecuadorian visual artist of the 20th century and one of the essential figures of Latin American art. He was declared "Painter of Ibero-America" by the IX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in 1999. His work, committed to the social injustice suffered by indigenous peoples in Latin America, has been categorized within indigenist expressionism, of which he is considered its leading exponent.

In 1942, at the young age of 23, Oswaldo Guayasamín held his first solo exhibition in Quito. From a young age, he traveled to various countries, including the United States and Mexico, where he connected with emerging artistic and cultural avant-gardes, interacting with figures such as Orozco and Diego Rivera. His works have been exhibited in major galleries and museums worldwide, becoming part of the collections of, among others, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid. Oswaldo Guayasamín has received some of the most prestigious awards and recognitions that can be bestowed upon a visual artist during their lifetime.
