Humanity has often faced crossroads that have marked radical shifts in its evolution. These major turning points typically reflect the historical trajectory of imperial powers. But in times of acceleration, these forking paths represent lines of global decision-making that unfold with uncontrollable speed. Nevertheless, all these lines aspire to some form of stabilization, ordering the worlds of life and proposing established patterns for constructing subjectivity.

José Luis Villacañas Berlanga (Úbeda, 1955) is Professor Emeritus of the History of Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid. His work encompasses German philosophy, political theory, and the history of ideas, with particular attention to the relationship between power and institutions. He is the founder of the Saavedra Fajardo Library of Hispanic Political Thought and editor emeritus of the journals Res Publica and Anales de Historia de la Filosofía. Author of more than thirty books, his most recent publications are Tierra o Ser. La gran decisión de la filosofía contemporánea (Akal, 2026) and Senderos que se bifurcan.
