CARTAGENA THINKS ESSAY READING CLUB: JUAN EVARISTO VALLS BOIX `THE RIGHT TO BEAUTIFUL THINGS´

The Right to Beautiful Things is an essay that invites reflection on the importance of beauty in everyday life as something essential to human existence, because art, culture, and pleasant environments contribute to well-being, dignity, and personal development. The author proposes a set of social policies that safeguard life, defending essential rights, such as the right to be lazy, to strike, or to retire, not as concessions from the system, but as radical acts of resistance to ultracapitalism.
Juan Evaristo Valls Boix ( Elche, 1990) is a philosopher, essayist, and professor of Philosophy of Culture at the Complutense University of Madrid. He has been a researcher and professor at various institutions and universities abroad. Valls Boix questions the idea that work should be the center of personal identity and defends the need to reclaim spaces for rest, care, leisure, and contemplation in the face of the logic of constant productivity, advocating for the ability to say "no" to the constant pressure to perform and compete.
