CARTAGENA THINKS INTRODUCTION TO ORNITHOLOGY CYCLE BirdLife Mar Menor

November 13. Talk by Francisco Robledano Aymerich: "Terrestrial Biodiversity on the Sea's Edge: The Port Environment of Cartagena."

Birdwatching is an activity that, in addition to providing knowledge and personal enjoyment, contributes to environmental protection. Birds are excellent indicators of the health of ecosystems, and learning to observe them respectfully helps us develop a deeper awareness of our natural environment. At SEO BirdLife Mar Menor, we consider it essential to promote knowledge of birds and their habitat, especially in a territory as valuable as the Mar Menor and its surroundings. Through this series of three talks and their corresponding outings, we aim to bring ornithology closer to the general public, foster respect for biodiversity, and encourage citizens to actively participate in its conservation.

Francisco Robledano Aymerich holds a PhD in Biology and is a tenured professor of Ecology at the University of Murcia. He is the deputy director of the Cartagena Port Authority-Campus Mare Nostrum Inter-University Chair and a member of SEO BirdLife.

The number of attendees at the talks will be limited to capacity.

NOVEMBER 14: JACINTO MARTÍNEZ RÓDENAS `EXCURSION THROUGH THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE DARSE AND ESCOMBRERAS VALLEY´

 

Visit to various points of interest in the Escombreras Dock area (Escombreras Island, Punta Aguilones, Sierra de la Fausilla). Ongoing monitoring activities in these areas will be presented (censuses, bird ringing and marking, vertebrate camera trapping, installation of nest boxes). If conditions permit, a bird capture session using vertical nets for ringing will be conducted. Jacinto
Martínez Ródenas is a biologist and expert bird ringer. He is a contracted researcher with the "Mediterranean Ecosystems" Research Group at the University of Murcia, working on the project "Monitoring and Research on Biodiversity in the Port of Cartagena Area: Terrestrial Fauna."

Due to the nature of the activity, the number of participants on the observation outings is limited to 15 people.
