SYNOPSIS: The story of Enriqueta Favez took place over two hundred years ago: she was the first woman to practice medicine in Cuba, dressed as a man. The fraught circumstances in which she moved from birth—whether in Switzerland, at the Sorbonne University in Paris, in the Napoleonic army, or finally in eastern Cuba—as well as the social conditions that constrained her like a rigid corset, are hardly comparable to the present day. The scandal caused by Enriqueta Favez's story upon the discovery of her true sex, the indictments, and the sentences handed down by the guardians of justice at that time, suggest that her story was deeply moving. Her trial was one of the most scandalous of the colonial era; she was severely condemned for daring to transgress the established norms for women of her time.

Kilómetro Cero is a prestigious Cuban theater company directed by Alberto Corona that uses art as a tool for raising awareness and reflecting on human rights, inclusion, and gender equality.
