V INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR THE COMPOSITION OF PROCESSIONAL MARCHES CITY OF CARTAGENA 2026

 

The Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week in Cartagena announces the 5th INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR THE COMPOSITION OF PROCESSION MARCHES 2026

Those interested can submit their compositions until November 16th at 23:59 hours in 2026 and the rules prepared by the Board of Brotherhoods are available here.

All composers of any nationality may participate in the Competition, regardless of age, except for members of the Music Band who are randomly selected to perform the competition marches. Likewise, members of the jury and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

It will be granted:

• A first prize of €2000 and a certificate.
• A second prize of €1000 and a certificate.
• A third prize of €800 and a certificate.
• The fourth and fifth place winners will be awarded a certificate.

The awards ceremony, including the presentation of certificates to the winning composers, will take place at a special concert at El Luzzy, where a local band will perform the finalist compositions live. Following the concert, the jury will announce its final decision, revealing the official titles of the works and the composers' information.

The competition, now in its fifth edition, was launched in 2023 as another initiative of the Cartagena City Council and the Board of Brotherhoods, to promote musical composition inspired by one of our most important traditions, Holy Week, with the aim of stimulating the creativity of local, regional and national composers in the area of ​​music that characterizes Holy Week marches.
