JOREL BATTERY

Built between 1929 and 1933 within Primo de Rivera's Plan (1926 Defence plan).

This battery is located on the tip of Cabo Tiñoso, at 218 meters above sea level.

The name "Jorel" comes from the species of fish horse mackerel.

It has settlements with barbettes, 4 Vickers 15,24cm pieces that were mounted during the years 1,931 - 1,932. During the Spanish Civil War it was reduced to 3 pieces.

In 1939 revolted the battery garrison against the Government of the Republic, it made a total of 51 shots on La Parajola battery. The last shots were fired in 1992. Since 1994, it is decommissioned due to the implementation of the PLAN NORTE, although it still remains armed with three Vickers pieces.

You access this battery, starting from the Cartagena to La Azohía road, crossing the Alamillo, which is at Km.7, after taking the detour to Campillo de Adentro and Cabo Tiñoso lighthouse.
