Defensive Architecture

PHILIP V'S WALL

VIEW MAP

This wall was built due to the need to put the city in a state of defence during the Succession War.

During the first half of the 18th century various works of fortification of the city were undertaken, among which are included the construction of a rampart wall and towers that protected the suburb of San Diego.

This enclosure, could be an extension of Antonelli's Wall in 1.576. From the vertex of the bulwark of Serreta street began a wall that stretched along the promontories of Monte Sacro hill, San José and Despeñaperros until arriving to Concepción Castle.

Of Philip V's Wall, only two vertexes of bastions are visible, one located next to the head of Serreta Street to the North, and the other on the northern slope of Monte Sacro hill.
