TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: FROM QART HADASHT TO CARTHAGO NOVA

06/26-09/30-2024

Carmen Martínez 's exhibition is a tribute to the history of the city and its people, citizens who every September relive History in unique festivals in the Mediterranean, the Carthaginian and Roman Festivals, declared of International Tourist Interest.

Carmen's photographs try to graphically narrate the History that is commemorated during the days of the Festival, from the Foundation of Qart Hadasht by the Carthaginian Hasdrubal, the departure of Hannibal's army towards Rome, and the Great Battle that ends with the conquest of the city at the hands of general Publius Cornelius Scipio.

The author takes us with her photographs and portraits, captured in full action, on a journey through time, making the viewer participate in the events that occurred at the end of the 3rd century BC.

The images are taken outdoors, with highly variable lighting conditions, where high shooting speed plays a primary role, freezing all movement. A camera value that becomes complicated at night, having to play very well between the diaphragm aperture to achieve the minimum possible depth of field and the ISO, until the image is frozen without excess noise.

Carmen Martínez, born in 1976, is a photographer passionate about performing arts and portraiture. She obtained her first analog camera as a prize in a drawing contest that she won at age 12 in Alumbres, her hometown, and since then, her passion has not stopped growing. She was always able to see photographic frames wherever she looked, for a decade she has been working as a photographer in her specialty of portraiture and the performing arts.
