CARTAGENA JAZZ FESTIVAL: Marco Mezquida. THE BATEL

Marco Mezquida is considered one of the brightest and most promising newcomers on the European music scene and an artist destined to conquer any imaginable stage in the world.
He has recorded more than twenty albums leading his own projects, and fifty more albums as a member of some of the best groups on the national scene. Among his projects as a leader are his albums Ravel's Dreams, Talismán and Letter to Milos, a trio with Aleix Tobias and Martín Meléndez; his alliance with flamenco guitarist Chicuelo on the albums Conexión and No hay dos sin tres, his solo piano concerts, the duets with Silvia Pérez Cruz, Andrea Motis and Salvador Sobral, the project “Piano + AI”.

In parallel, Mezquida has developed symphonic projects : his reinterpretation of Rhapsody in Blue with orchestra and jazz trio, and the creation and premiere in 2023 of Talaiot, his Concerto for piano and orchestra, premiered at the Palau de la Música. He has also collaborated with legendary artists such as Lee Konitz and Dave Liebman.


Mezquida has presented his projects in some of the most important venues in the world: Tokyo Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia, Elb Philharmonie, Wiener Konzerthaus, Jazzopen Stuttgart, Bozar, Palau de la Música Catalana, Kölner Philharmonie, Castell de Peralada, Parco della Musica de Roma, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Bimhuis, to name a few.

He has been awarded the BMW Welt Jazz Awards (jury and public), Premis Alicia, Premi Ciutat de Barcelona, ​​6 Enderrock awards for best album of the year and has been chosen Musician of the Year by the Association of Musicians of Catalonia on four occasions.
