  ARS ICUE Artists Group
To get to know the ARS ICUE artists group, who are participating in this COLLECTIVE exhibition, it might be good to know where they come from. And they come from where all artists emerge, because all of them, from the moment they are born, follow the same evolution - or perhaps we should say curse. They come into the world with a strange sensitivity towards shapes and colours, and with shapes and colours they treat each other as equals, they know each other, they communicate, they feel. They respect each other. They know each other. And from a very young age, perhaps at school, they discover that the rest of the boys and girls, the germ of that future society, seem to have this same concern; they all draw and colour, all the time, and not only that, but they communicate with each other through these drawings; they know someone's feelings, who likes whom or who hates whom, if someone is sad or happy, their tastes, their fears are glimpsed when seeing those strokes and colours on paper. The world, at first, is It appears to them as a wonderful place, and with their drawings and colours they create worlds and characters, and drive away fears and complexes; a perfect world created by a hypothetical perfect God who, surely, also draws - draws us.
But time passes, and the age of 11, 12, 13 arrives and puberty begins to leave us, and adolescence begins to appear from afar. Then, as if it were a strange and unexpected epidemic, almost all the boys and girls stop communicating with each other and with others by drawing. Our young man, our young artist is left in solitude and sadness, thrown into a world that suddenly discovers itself mute, blind and deaf to the shapes and colours of yesteryear. Nothing is born anymore, and only the oasis of personality remains of the one who resists the strange and unexpected illness. And he suffers, for the first time, a mental suffering, and a real one. Perhaps unpolished loneliness. But his intuition speaks to him, and tells him that he must continue (in fact, he could not stop doing anything else), and one autumn afternoon, one of those afternoons when the light does not seem light but copper dust and we smile without knowing why, our young artist faces his image in front of a mirror, and makes the following promise to himself. : That the rest of her life will be dedicated to continuing with drawings and colors, and not only that, but she will create the strokes that her friends will never make again; those drawings will be born, and will communicate emotions and feelings to the world, as before. They will live through her hand in the empty spaces, they will grow in time through her heart. It is an important promise, one of those that are sealed with a fixed gaze and a clenched jaw. One world is over, well then, we will make another! And the young God, the young Goddess, will turn to look at the Nutella sandwich that his mother has made for him, and he will grow up. And he will become Eu, or Mota, or Mirimeri or Julio Nieto or Alberto Mateos, Melquíades Ramos or Isidoro Conesa, Jesús Lorente or Ceyma, Nandy or Hell Nuki. And they will meet in the extraordinary city of Cartagena, and they will join together in a group of artists called ARS ICUE, and they will present this exhibition here today. And they will continue to fight to exhibit, and to make sculptures, and to paint, however difficult the circumstances may be. And they will not do it for money, or for ego, or for the desire to go down in history, but because many years ago, one autumn afternoon, one of those afternoons when the light does not seem light but copper dust and we smile without knowing why, they made a promise to themselves in front of a mirror. And they are the ones who keep their promises...
