The "Ciudad de Cartagena" Procession March Competition will be internationalized in its third edition, and will be able to receive proposals from authors from all over the world. To this end, the rules have been published in both Spanish and English. In addition, on this occasion, proposals can be submitted until November 30, inclusive, and must have the characteristics of rhythm and expression of the Cartagena Holy Week Festival, and be suitable for use in parades.
"While devotion and tradition mix in the humid Cartagena breeze, our Nazarenes advance supported by the beautiful marches that bring us here today" said the Councillor for Culture, Ignacio Jáudenes, at the presentation of this initiative, which was also attended by the President of the Board of Brotherhoods, Javier Pavía, the President of the technical jury of the competition, Javier Añó, and representatives of the Holy Week brotherhoods.
This competition has a double objective: to enrich the processional sound archive and also to discover new composers of processional music. It is an initiative promoted by the Cartagena City Council and the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week in Cartagena.
The five finalist marches will be performed in Cartagena by a local band at the Extraordinary Holy Week Music Concert, which will take place on February 22 at 8:00 p.m., at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center.
