EXHIBITION: “Membrana” by Kihong Chung
In the 2024 call, the Cartagena City Council has joined the Spaces Plan
Exhibitions with the participation of Ki Hong Chung (South Korea, 1975) who
exhibits his project “MeMbrana” in the Domus Room of the Pórtico.
It is an artistic project that assumes the landscape, a traditional genre, as its plot line.
in painting, but now the interpreter's gaze translates it into contemporary times.
A kind of reflection on a central theme: nature. And as it has already been
usual in his poetics, he does it from minimal elements, with sobriety, as a path
foggy towards introspection.
It is a set of pieces made using acrylic, Chinese ink and polyester,
with a montage that goes beyond the strict two-dimensionality of the pictorial support and delves into
on the premises of the facility. The result is a superposition of plans in the form of
of membranes. Membranes that not only acquire physical entity, but also acquire
metaphysical entity, in the words of the author himself: “For some time now my
eyes do not see well. It was another membrane for me. I already saw the world through numerous
membranes (the cornea, glasses, culture, customs, education, prejudices,
etc.), but this new one makes my vision even more blurred […] These membranes
They obstruct my vision and limit the scope of my thoughts, but they can also be
a path to the truth that lies beyond them.”
Ki brings us poetry, mystery and the relationship with nature with his brushes
of Asian cultural tradition. Contemplating Kihong Chung's works is a journey
interior that will be enriching and satisfying for all visitors to this magnificent
exposure.
