“From Carthago Nova to Petra. Celestial landscapes of the Ancient Mediterranean”
The Cartagena Roman Theatre Museum closes the year with a lecture by Juan Antonio Belmonte Avilés “From Carthago Nova to Petra. Celestial landscapes of the Ancient Mediterranean” in collaboration with the Cartagena Astronomical Association.
Juan Antonio Belmonte Avilés: is a Research Professor at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), where he has conducted research and taught in asteroseismology, exoplanetology and archaeoastronomy, the latter being his current line of research.
The researcher has published more than twenty books and more than two hundred articles on the subject. He has been President of the European Society for Astronomy in Culture (SEAC), of the "International Society for Archaeoastronomy and Astronomy in Culture" (ISAAC), and of the Commission C4 "World Heritage and Astronomy" of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
In 2012 he received the "Carlos Jaschek" Prize for Cultural Astronomy for his contribution to this discipline. Born in Murcia in 1962, over the last three decades he has developed large-scale research into the astronomical traditions of ancient Mediterranean cultures and beyond.
The conference will be held on Friday 27th at 7:00 p.m., in the Museum's auditorium.
