OSRM Symphony Cycle in Concert II
Manuel Hernández-Silva presents us with a programme appropriate for Valentine's Day. Schumann's opera is inspired by the medieval legend of Genoveva of Brabant and the overture contains several motifs linked together with expressive meaning.
The concert will feature the Colombian cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, who will make his debut in Murcia with a romantic work that combines virtuoso elements with an enigmatic structure and great melodic beauty.
Tchaikovsky displays his melodic power and orchestral clarity in these two love works: The overture Romeo and Juliet is inspired by the Shakespearean drama of the same name and combines dramatic and descriptive elements. The Fantasia Francesca da Rimini is based on Canto V of Dante Alighieri's Inferno. Alighieri, accompanied by Virgil, descends into hell and discovers Francesca and Paolo among the damned souls. Their passions and misfortunes are beautifully translated into music.
