CARTAGENA THINKS: CARLOS MAGRO `AI AND EDUCATION. A RELATIONSHIP WITH SEAMS´

In his book AI and Education: A Relationship with Seams, co-authored with Tíscar Lara and published by Trama Editorial (2025), he argues that artificial intelligence will not revolutionize education as it is being portrayed. This is because AI, as it is currently being developed and offered to education, is moving in directions contrary to what education needs for a true transformation. The book explores why the promises of AI in this field (productivity, efficiency, automation, and personalization) are flawed and why, far from being beneficial, they conceal serious threats of further exacerbating education's existing weaknesses and contributing to its
collapse.

Carlos Magro is president of the Open Education Association. He works as an independent professional in innovation, technology, and educational policy. He coordinates the educational program of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza in Madrid and is the content director of the Edtech Congress Barcelona.

Presented by: María del Mar Sánchez Vera. Member of the Educational Technology Research Group and tenured professor in the Department of Didactics and School Organization at the Faculty of Education of the University of Murcia.
