ajor figures from our country’s arts scene headline the new theatre season promoted by the City Council’s Department of Culture at the El Batel Auditorium. Comedian Joaquín Reyes, Alicia Rubio, Raúl Jiménez, and Natalia Pinot will bring their production La Verdad to the cultural venue on April 29 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets and further information are available at www.auditorioelbatel.es and at the auditorium box office (Monday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).

La Verdad is a comedy about infidelity and romantic relationships, written by French playwright Florian Zeller. In this version, directed by Juan Carlos Fisher (who also directed Zeller’s plays La madre and El padre), the protagonist is played by the popular actor, screenwriter, and comedian Joaquín Reyes. This production is an intriguing game of lies, where four characters manipulate, deceive, and twist the truth to suit their own purposes.

On April 29, the audience in Cartagena will discover the story of Miguel, a compulsive liar surrounded by friends and family who also lie to him. His wife, Laura, suspects him of infidelity. From that suspicion, lies become his way of managing everything; after numerous attempts to hide the truth, Miguel convinces his lover that deception is the only way to maintain relationships, and that without it, love, marriage, happiness, and coexistence would be impossible.

In addition to Reyes, the new municipal theatre season at the El Batel Auditorium will feature major performers such as Lola Herrera, Lluís Homar, and Paloma San Basilio, among others. Tickets are now on sale at www.auditorioelbatel.es and at the cultural venue’s box office.
