CARTAGENA NOGRA: 1st Boria Prize for Young Adult Short Stories. JURY'S DECISION
SOFÍA RAMA CARRIÓN WINS THE FIRST EDITION OF THE BORIA AWARDS FOR YOUNG ADULT CRIME FICTION
The UPCT Industrial Engineering student won first prize for her work, " Mud on the Shoes ," which combines a dark atmosphere with the sensitive topic of abuse. Second prize went to Javier Bascuñana Caballero, also a UPCT student, for his unsettling story, "The Spectator," and an honorable mention was awarded to Claudia Hernández Blaya, a second-year high school student at IES Mediterráneo, for her piece, "The Last Stop."
The awards ceremony was attended by the jury members, from the Cartagena Negra team, as well as Jaume Blancafort, Cultural Coordinator at UPCT, and Anabel Pedreño, manager of the Santos Ochoa Cartagena Bookstore, both of which sponsored the competition. The event featured a performance by several students from the Sociocultural Animation program at IES Mediterráneo and was attended by the eight finalists and numerous participants.
With this first edition, the Cartagena Negra events fulfill a wish that, due to the dates of their celebration, had not been realized until now: to open their literary week to the teaching public of both Baccalaureate and Vocational Training, as well as to university students.
The three winners, who have received as their prize sets of books and in the case of the first two, 200 and 100 euros respectively, will participate in the conference next September in an event prior to the "Leave your hat here" Contest, in which they will read their texts.
