CARTAGENA THINKS: FEDERICO MONTALBÁN LÓPEZ `MARI AGAINST POVERTY´
CARTAGENA THINKS: BOOK PRESENTATION. FEDERICO MONTALBÁN LÓPEZ `MARI AGAINST POVERTY´
Mari lives in an ordinary neighborhood in the Region of Murcia. She works as a waitress, has two sons (Jaime and Jorge), and a dinosaur. The dinosaur (which could be the same one from Augusto Monterroso's story) represents Mari's inner strength, the source of energy that allows her to face all the daily problems that come with living in poverty. Mari shares the spotlight in these stories with her friends Tamara and Henriette. They represent all those women who fight against poverty every day, and we want this to be EAPN-RM's recognition of their courage and effort.
Federico Montalbán López (Murcia, 1974) published his first novel, *El Ataúd paciente* (The Patient Coffin), in 2004. Since then, he has published six more books, including essays, a collection of short stories, novels, and a fictional diary. He has contributed to various magazines, online publications such as elestafador.com, and fanzines like El Quinto Vagón. For years, he wrote a daily blog, elhombreamadecasa.com.
He currently works for the Network for the Fight Against Poverty and Exclusion of the Region of Murcia (EAPN-RM) and lives in Espinardo with his partner and a kitten that came to him from the neighborhood rooftops.
