CARTAGENA THINKS: PHILOSOPHICAL CAFES. MARIAM CAZORLA CARAVACA 'DO WE REALLY WANT A LONG LIFE?'

Given the advances in technology and medicine, the extension of life expectancy appears as an increasingly plausible horizon. However, this possibility opens up tensions that should be examined. First, the question of inequality arises: who will actually be able to access these innovations? The transhumanist horizon seems today closely linked to economic elites capable of turning longevity into a new tool for exploitation. Second, we must rethink our relationship with time: how would the stages of life—education, work, retirement—be redefined in a radically extended life? What would happen to our historical experience or to boredom? Finally, the planetary crisis poses a crucial question: does it make sense to aspire to longer lives in a world beset by crisis?
