CARTAGENA THINKS: BEERS & POLITICS. MIGUEL ÁNGEL SÁNCHEZ GARCÍA `THE MUSICAL RESISTANCE OF THE CHILDREN OF MIGRATION´.

In Spain, there are singers of migrant origin who have found in musical creation a strategy of resistance against stigmatization, transforming social rejection into pride in both their own identity and that of their neighborhoods. We will discuss them and the emergence of new urban music genres, such as drill, which reflect these processes.
Miguel Ángel Sánchez is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Murcia and holds a PhD in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Bristol, the University of Salerno, and the European University Institute in Florence. His main lines of research focus on the socio-environmental sustainability of export agriculture, cultural creation processes, and social theory. He is currently part of the European project “Lit-Future: Literature and Ecosocial Change.”
