CARTAGENA THINKS: HOUSING, POLITICS AND URBAN REGENERATION: PUNISHING THE POOR?
Based on two sociological studies of the Los Mateos neighborhood in Cartagena and the La Paz neighborhood in Murcia, this book explores the problems of social and residential exclusion in our cities. The stigma of "rough neighborhoods" obscures the dynamics of urban segregation suffered by the most vulnerable and disenfranchised populations. Public policies fail to offer solutions to the problems of inequality and exclusion from the right to housing. Pollution and environmental degradation are also prevalent in impoverished neighborhoods, as the case of Los Mateos demonstrates.
