The official premiere of the feature-length documentary La Algameca Chica has been scheduled for Friday, June 5, at 8:00 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy. Directed by filmmaker Blanca Pérez de Tudela, the film is the first full-length cinematic work dedicated to this community. Its aim is to offer a broader and more realistic perspective on its history, identity, and cultural heritage value. Admission is free, subject to venue capacity.

The objective of the documentary La Algameca Chica is to help reshape the public perception of this enclave, located on the coast of Cartagena and traditionally associated with a marginal image, by highlighting its history and identity. To achieve this, the film brings together a range of voices that contribute to a diverse and multifaceted view of La Algameca Chica.

Among them is historian José Ibarra, an expert on the enclave’s settlement history who has previously worked on documentary productions such as The Year of the Discovery. The documentary also features sociologist Diego Fernández from the University of Murcia, who provides a social analysis of the area and its community dynamics.

The project began independently in August 2023 with a small team that started filming without funding, relying on the support of family members, friends, and colleagues from the audiovisual sector. This initial phase focused on documenting everyday life in the enclave and preserving its collective memory.
