Thyssen Krupp company awarded the prize to Cartagena and Benidorm as a more accessible tourist destinations 2018. In its fifth edition, the port city shares award with Benidorm, obtaining more than 45,000 votes each.
In total, more than 130 localities were candidates for this award, and must meet certain requirements to be: Having a comprehensive accessibility plan and at least one accessible tourist route that would know the most important corners of the city. It should also have a gastronomic and hotel offer adapted for the disabled or some cognitive impairment.
Among the actions that are being made it is important to highlight those accessibility projects being developed in places of tourist influx as hotels, museums and beaches for those with physical or cognitive disabilities can enjoy Cartagena.
